Welcome to the Affiliation of Australian Women’s Advocacy Alliances (AAWAA). We are an independent women’s rights organisation and media outlet, as well as a national peak advocacy body for our own, locally organised, grass-roots women’s liberation groups across Australia. We work to promote, advance, advocate for, and defend the social equality, welfare, and human rights of women and girls on the basis of our biological sex. AAWAA is run entirely by volunteers and is funded by community support. We are everyday women, working to protect our rights.
Our dual role as advocacy organisation and volunteer-led, independent media outlet
AAWAA occupies a unique position in the Australian media and advocacy landscape. We are ordinary women balancing work, family, and advocacy; but in addition to this, we combine rigorous advocacy work with independent journalism, producing evidence-based policy research, submissions, and multimedia content that holds power to account for the sex-based protections and rights of women and girls. Through our investigative blog, accessible podcasts, opinion pieces, and detailed policy analysis, we provide crucial coverage of issues affecting women and girls that mainstream and legacy media often overlook or misrepresent.
Our independent, volunteer-led media and research work includes:
- Examination, inquiry, and investigation that combine the on-the-ground, lived experience of women with academic and journalistic rigour
- In-depth policy analysis examining legislation and government decisions, and their impact on women’s rights
- Digestible podcasts featuring expert analysis and critique of current issues facing women and girls in Australia
- Comprehensive submissions to government inquiries, UN bodies, and regulatory authorities
Our advocacy methodology
AAWAA’s advocacy is grounded in evidence, research, and principled analysis. We work with integrity, uphold standards, and use fact, evidence, reason, and rationality — and always, above all, courtesy and civility — to make our case. We have good standing in the community and maintain the highest standards of professionalism as an entirely member-supported body.
We identify where current and established frameworks designed to protect women and girls are being eroded, undermined, ignored, or disregarded, and we engage strategically with those who hold legislative authority, political accountability, and social responsibility for our safeguarding and advancement.
Independent and non-partisan research
We are not aligned with the left, right, a particular religious perspective, or a particular belief system. Our work is distinguished by our commitment to rigorous research and evidence-based advocacy and investigation. We maintain comprehensive documentation of legislative changes and their consequences for women and girls, and we collaborate with legal experts, academics, and practitioners to ensure our advocacy is principled, accurate, and practical.
Media credibility and professional standards
As an independent media outlet operated by women in towns and suburb across Australia, AAWAA maintains the highest standards of journalistic integrity. Our content is
- Evidence-based: All claims are supported by verifiable sources and rigorous research
- Transparent: We clearly identify our sources, methodologies, and any potential conflicts of interest
- Balanced: We acknowledge other perspectives whilst maintaining our commitment to women’s rights
- Accessible: We translate complex policy issues into clear, understandable analysis for the public
